A former soldier with links to far-right groups has been arrested on suspicion of shooting dead an Argentinian rugby player in Paris.
Loik Le Priol, 27, was arrested in Hungary on Wednesday on suspicion of killing Federico Martin Aramburu, Paris‘ prosecutor’s office confirmed.
Priol, who was detained by police near the Ukrainian border with Hungary, is a member of the French far-right group GUD.
Aramburu, 42, who had 22 caps for the Argentinian national team, played against France in the 2007 World Cup.
He was living in the Basque region but was in Paris for “personal reasons”, French newspaper L’Equipe reported.
Aramburu died in the early hours of Saturday, when four men were involved in an altercation outside a bar in Mabillon, Paris, sources close to the case said.
It ended with two men driving past the bar in a car and a gun being fired several times at the rugby player, who was declared dead at the scene.

The other man believed to be in the car, also thought to have links to the far-right, is still wanted by police.
A 24-year-old woman has been arrested, accused of driving the car, and is being kept in custody.
Aramburu played for the French teams Biarritz, Perpignan and Dax, before moving to Glasgow Warriors in 2010.
His Warriors teammates said they were “shocked and saddened” by news of his “tragic” death.
“The embodiment of a true warrior and much-loved by all, the thoughts of everyone past and present at the club, are with his family at this immensely difficult time,” they wrote in a tribute.
