Thousands of rail workers will strike in October – bringing a halt to many services as a long-running dispute over pay and conditions continues to cause disruption.
Rail strikes are currently planned for 1, 5 and 8 October.
Train operators are advising customers that do use the rail network on the strike days to make regular checks before they set off amid likely further changes to services.
Saturday 1 October
East Midlands Railway – services will only operate between 0730 and 1830. These will include one train an hour in both directions between Nottingham and London. There will also be just hourly services between Nottingham and other major locations such as Derby, but other routes will be closed.
Great Western Railway – “extremely limited service” which will run from 0730 to 1830. Rail services will only operate on the routes between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington; Reading and Didcot; and Reading and Basingstoke.
Avanti West Coast – no services.
LNER – no trains “to the North” will go “beyond Leeds” or “north of York”, while there will be just four trains from Leeds to Doncaster. It means there will be some services to York, Doncaster and Leeds out of London King’s Cross.
CrossCountry – no services.
TransPennine Express – “very limited service on some lines” with customers advised to travel only “if journeys are essential”. The company will continue to provide further updates “as soon as possible”.
Greater Anglia – people told to “avoid travelling with us. Our services will be severely reduced and disrupted. It’s likely that most routes won’t have trains or bus replacements for them”.
c2c – “significant disruption expected on all lines” with a reduced service between 0730 and 1830.
Chiltern Railways – no service on any route.
Southern, Great Northern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express – customers are being warned to “only travel if absolutely necessary” as there will be a “severely reduced” service.
West Midlands Railway – no services on any route.
Southeastern – no services running.
Northern – no services running.
South Western Railway – severely reduced service between 0730 and 1830.
Wednesday 5 October
East Midlands Railway – will provide more information “as soon as possible”, according to its website.
Great Western Railway – “extremely limited service” from 0730 to 1830. Rail services will only operate between Bristol Temple Meads and London Paddington; Reading and Oxford; and Reading and Basingstoke.
Avanti West Coast – no service.
LNER – services expected to run in the same way as 1 October, but customers are being urged to check the firm’s website for updates.
CrossCountry – no services.
TransPennine Express – “very limited service on some lines” with customers advised to travel only “if journeys are essential”. The company will continue to provide further updates “as soon as possible”.
Greater Anglia – people told to “avoid travelling with us. Our services will be severely reduced and disrupted. It’s likely that most routes won’t have trains or bus replacements for them”.
c2c – operator says this day’s action will “not affect” services, but it adds “trains may be busier than usual”.
Chiltern Railways – no service on any route.
Southern, Great Northern, Thameslink, Gatwick Express – services expected to be “extremely busy” due to the strike action.
West Midlands Railway – no services on any route.
Southeastern – no services running.
Northern – no services running.
South Western Railway – SWR drivers “will not be involved” in this day’s strike action.
Saturday 8 October
East Midlands Railway – no further information about impact of any possible disruption currently available.
Great Western Railway – “full impact” of strike action is “currently being assessed”.
Avanti West Coast – only travel if necessary.
LNER – further updates expected “in the coming days”.
CrossCountry – a “significantly reduced” timetable.
TransPennine Express – “very limited service on some lines” with customers advised to travel only “if journeys are essential”. The company will continue to provide further updates “as soon as possible”.
