Rejoice, broken up couples, for you can now transfer your carefully curated Netflix profile from one account to another.
Designed to help those who have a profile on an account owned by someone else, the new feature lets you keep personalised recommendations, viewing history, lists, and other settings when starting a subscription of your own.
“People move. Families grow. Relationships end,” says Netflix, in a statement befitting of a film trailer voice-over.
“But throughout these life changes, your Netflix experience should stay the same.”
Netflix will hope that the move will benefit its push to stop people sharing passwords, as it bids to reverse falling subscriber numbers.
This year has seen the streaming giant report a fall in paying members for the first time in more than a decade.
From 4 November, Netflix will offer an ad-supported tier for the first time in the UK. The plan, costing £4.99 a month, means adverts will play before and during films and shows.

How to do a profile transfer
While the feature has started to roll out this week, you will be emailed when it becomes available on your account.
You then need to launch Netflix, hover over your profile icon in the dropdown menu on the home page, and select the profile transfer option.
Instructions will then guide you through how to complete the process.
The launch comes after months of testing in South America, in the hope that the wider rollout will go smoothly.
