A man was killed after his clothes got caught in a subway car which dragged him on to the tracks in front of an oncoming train in New York.
The 20-year-old’s death on Monday comes three days after David Martin, 32, was pushed in front of a train, seemingly at random, and broke his collar bone.
An ex-convict named as Lamale McRae, 41, was arrested for the attack.
Last week a 26-year-old man suffered leg injuries when he was pushed in front of a train, again apparently at random.
A homeless man, believed to have attacked him, was arrested.
Violence on the city’s subways has put New Yorkers on edge because of a surge in crime across the Big Apple.
The state governor Kathy Hochul, who is up for re-election in three weeks, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams have both announced plans to increase the number of police officers patrolling the subway system.
“We’re all fighting for our city but there’s more work to do. That’s why we’re investing in mental health services, more officers in the subways, and more affordable housing,” Adams, who has been criticised for his response to the subway attacks, said on Twitter on Sunday.

In January, 40-year-old Michelle Go died after she was pushed in front of a train at Times Square.
Her murder was seen as part of a surge in anti-Asian attacks in US cities.
In April a gunman set off smoke bombs and opened fire in a subway car, wounding more than 20 people. A suspect was arrested the following day.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has said it will install cameras in all New York subway cars.
