An animal shelter offering donors the chance to have their ex’s name written in a litter box is to reveal the list of former lovers tomorrow, on Valentine’s Day.
Ohio’s Animal Friends Humane Society had offered the unique tribute for just a $5 (£4.15) contribution, with the litter box to be passed to cats “to let them do what they do best”, according to its website.
Some 480 people have taken up the opportunity to have their ex listed, according to CNN.
In the hope of driving up donations, the promotion on the shelter’s website reads: “Do you have a crappy ex?
“Don’t spend this Valentine’s Day down in the dumps!
“Instead, cheer yourself up while making a difference for animals in need!”
The shelter, based in the city of Hamilton, said it was accepting donations up until the Sunday before the big day, with it set to showcase all the names it received in a video post.
Meanwhile, the Animal Friends Humane Society, which was established in 1952 to provide homes for abandoned and mistreated animals, currently has around 22 cats available for adoption.

Its website says its mission is to “promote humane principles, protect lost, homeless, abandoned and mistreated animals, and act as advocates for animals in our communities”.
The shelter’s promotion is one of many anti-Valentine’s Day campaigns, with San Antonio Zoo offering people the chance to name a cockroach after an ex and watch it be fed to an animal – all for a small donation.
