XBorg, the gaming protocol and sister company to Swissborg, has announced a strategic partnership with one of the fastest-growing esports organizations globally, Team BDS, the current world champions for Rocket League.
The collaboration aims to create an innovative esports project combining gaming with blockchain technology, reinventing the roles of everyone in the esports ecosystem. The partnership will also involve working with metaverse projects such as The Sandbox and Avatarz to provide unique experiences for players and fans in the Metaverse.
The partnership signifies a significant step in the evolution of esports as it looks to bring web3 closer to the rapidly growing esports industry. Blockchain, through the implementation of NFTs, token-gated content and experiences, and on-chain data, opens the door to revolutionizing how players, fans, and esports organizations interact and engage.
Louis Regis, Xborg’s CEO said,
“This collaboration demonstrates Team BDS’s commitment to being a pioneer in the industry and their core focus on fans, who are the cornerstone of the esports industry.”
TeamBDS self-proclaims to be the “fastest growing esports organization in the world,” and its recent success in Rocket League, alongside promising results in League of Legends, FIFA 23, and Rainbow 6 Siege, supports the message. The organization has earned over $3 million in esports prize money since 2019, with 93% of the winnings coming from Rainbow 6 Siege and Rocket League.
Jocelyn Roux, Managing Director of Team BDS, commented,
“Always at the forefront of digital innovation[…] Team BDS is now determined to leverage the opportunities offered by Web3. This partnership offers a new perspective for Team BDS, introducing the release of virtual spaces and unprecedented experiences for the club.”
Fans can sign up to the MyBDS community to receive a “free virtual collectible” and “take part in the ultimate experience for video game fans,” according to the newly launched website. Fans will soon be able to experience the first esports arena in The Sandbox metaverse as well as create digital avatars to support TeamBDS with Avatarz.
The marriage of blockchain and esports appears to be a natural fit as both industries tend to attract early adopters of digital technology. However, given the public resistance to adding NFTs to traditional games, it will be important to assess the community’s reaction to the news of a major esports organization partnering with blockchain projects to enhance fan engagement.
