A climber has been rescued after plunging into a deep crack in one of the most dangerous mountains in the world.
Several attempts were made to reach Anurag Maloo after he fell into a 300-metre deep crevasse on Mount Annapurna – the 10th highest peak in the world – in north central Nepal on Monday.
He was flown to a hospital in the resort town of Pokhara on Thursday, according to expedition organiser Thaneswar Guragai, who is based at Seven Summit Treks in capital Kathmandu.
Mr Maloo is receiving treatment but his condition is currently unknown.
Renowned Northern Irish climber, Noel Hanna, perished on the same mountain on Monday, after he successfully reached Annapurna’s treacherous 8,091m summit.
Mr Guragai said Mr Hanna’s body was carried down the mountain and taken to the capital.
He is believed to have died at base camp, his friend Pat Falvy told Irish broadcaster RTE.

Mr Hanna, 56, climbed Everest 10 times and was the first person from the island of Ireland to climb and descend K2, the second highest mountain in the world.
Another Indian climber, named as Baljeet Kaur, also became unwell on Annapurna on Monday but miraculously survived – despite spending the night without the aid of supplement bottled oxygen.
Meanwhile on Mount Everest, three Sherpa guides have been missing since last week after falling into a crevasse believed to be about 50 metres deep, located on a perilous section just above base camp.
It comes as the spring mountaineering season begins in Nepal, with hundreds of tourists and local guides arriving in the area in the hope of conquering the world’s highest peaks.

Last September a US mountaineer was found dead after falling from Mount Manaslu, the eighth-highest peak in Nepal, which has eight of the world’s 14 highest mountains.
Annapurna is considered dangerous because of the frequent risk of avalanches, with more than 72 people said to have died on the mountain, according to hiking officials.
