An elderly couple who died after a car crash with a cement mixer lorry have been named by police.
Augustin Simmons, 87, and Margaret Simmons, 86, better known as John and Peggy, were trapped in their silver Ford Fusion after it collided with a cement mixer lorry in Long Melford, Suffolk, on 28 April.
The couple, who lived in Sudbury, were cut out of the vehicle by firefighters and taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge but died there two days later, Suffolk Police said.
Paying tribute, their three children Linda, Karen and Kevin Simmons, described them as “the most wonderful parents” and said they “take consolation from knowing they are still together at peace”.
“Peggy and John were seriously injured as a result of a collision on the afternoon of 28 April and despite the outstanding efforts of the Addenbrooke’s ICU doctors and nurses, they passed away peacefully with their family beside them,” a statement said.
