Meta has announced a suite of AI-powered ad tools, Reuters reported May 11.
AI sandbox
Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, announced a suite of products called AI Sandbox during an event in New York.
The new set of tools uses generative AI — or AI capable of creating content — to produce text and images for online advertisements.
The feature is currently available to a small but unspecified number of advertisers. Other advertisers will gain access to the tool in July, and some of the features could be added to other advertising products by the end of 2023, Meta said.
Though Meta has not publicly announced AI Sandbox, the company published a blog post on its website detailing other ad-related AI developments.
In the post, the company said it is using a separate tool called Meta Lattice to enhance ad performance, noting that it would “further iterate” on that tool.
Meta ramping up AI efforts
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg hinted at advertising alongside other uses for AI during an earnings call in April.
In that call, Zuckerberg also suggested that Facebook could use or is currently using AI in content discovery, customer support, and more.
The company also attracted attention when Facebook’s LLaMA language model leaked to the public in March. That code leak greatly benefited the open-source community, according to statements from a Google engineer earlier this month.
