A new wave of 20mph roads will be introduced in London before the end of the year.
Transport for London is lowering the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph on 65km of roads.
The lowered speed limit will be in place in these boroughs:
• Greenwich
• Kensington and Chelsea
• Lewisham
• Southwark
• Wandsworth
• Merton
• Bromley
• Lambeth
In total, TfL is lowering the speed limit on 140km of roads by 2024.
Earlier this year, a 20mph speed limit was introduced on 28km of roads in the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney, Haringey and Tower Hamlets.
All roads within the capital’s congestion charging zone also have a 20mph speed limit.

“We’re lowering speed limits because if you hit someone at 30mph they’re five times more likely to die than if you hit them at 20mph,” TfL said.
TfL said early indications showed a “significant reduction” in crashes since the 20mph speed limit was introduced roads in the congestion zone in 2020.
In Wales, most residential roads that are currently 30mph will have a reduced speed limit of 20mph from 17 September.
Wales is the first UK nation to lower the default limit from 30mph.
In England, setting speed limits is up to the local authority. About one in three people live in an area where the council has a 20mph scheme in residential areas, but how this is implemented varies by authority.
