Luis Rubiales has arrived at a Madrid court to be questioned by a judge investigating his kiss of Jenni Hermoso.
The former head of Spain’s football federation caused uproar when he kissed the player after Spain won the women’s World Cup.
She said she didn’t consent to it – something Mr Rubiales disputes.
He finally stepped down on Sunday after resisting fierce calls for him to resign, but Spanish authorities had already filed a sexual assault and coercion complaint.
It came after Hermoso herself made a formal complaint to the prosecutor.
It is now up to judge Francisco de Jorge to decide whether to pursue formal criminal charges.
Mr Rubiales could be fined or be jailed for between one to four years if the case ultimately goes to trial.

He is also facing an inquiry by Spain‘s top sport court for “serious misconduct” and an investigation by FIFA, which has provisionally suspended him.
Mr Rubiales was also pictured grabbing his crotch in celebration when Spain edged out England in last month’s final.
