Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) “absolutely” would vote to remove McCarthy, she said Sunday.
“Would I cast that vote, absolutely,” Ocasio-Cortez said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday. “I think Kevin Mccarthy is a very weak speaker. He has clearly lost control of his caucus.”
Other Democrats are likely to do the same, the progressive representative said, unless McCarthy and his allies make some concessions to their caucus.
Bailing out McCarthy would require “a real conversation between the Republican and Democratic caucuses and Republican and Democratic leadership about what that would mean,” Ocasio-Cortez said when CNN’s Jake Tapper asked whether she believed any Democrats would be willing to help McCarthy save his gavel.
“I don’t think we give up votes for free,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
