Two men and a women suffered a “terrifying ordeal” in Northern Ireland when armed men entered a home on Saturday night, police have said.
Officers said the trio are recovering from head injuries after reports of an “altercation” in a residential street in Newtownards, in Co Down.
“Police received a report at approximately 10.25pm on Saturday evening of an altercation in the Meadow Close area,” a spokesperson said.
“It was alleged a number of men, who were armed with weapons, entered the garden of a property and assaulted two men and a woman.”
All three needed hospital treatment for their injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.
“This a terrifying ordeal for those involved,” the spokesperson added.
The police investigation is “under way”, they said, to figure out exactly what happened, a motive, and who was involved.
As part of their investigation, police are urging any witnesses to come forward and speak to officers.
