The remains of a baby have been found in a park in Greater Manchester, police have said.
The discovery was made by a dog walker on Wednesday near Ashton’s Field in Little Hulton.
Greater Manchester Police said detectives were pursuing “several lines of enquiry”.
They also said a post-mortem examination was under way, but that officers did not yet know the sex or ethnicity of the child, who they have named “Baby A”.
The district commander for Salford, Chief Superintendent Neil Blackwood, said police were working with partner agencies in the area to try to identify the remains and work out how long they have been there.
He urged anyone with information to get in touch, saying that “even the most minor detail” could be “crucial” to their investigation.
“If you have seen anyone in the area over the last few days, or know who the parents could be, please call us as soon as you can,” he added.
