A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in north London.
Christopher De Carvalho Guedes, 26, died after the moped he was riding was involved in a collision with a marked police van on Southbury Road, Enfield, on 12 October last year.
The driver of the van, Constable Ian Brotherton, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Brotherton, 32, is also charged with causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Mr Guedes, who is Brazilian, was turning right into Baird Road when he was struck and died in hospital a day later.
The vehicle, which had its lights and sirens on, drove through a red light before the collision.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigated the incident after a referral from the Met Police.
The watchdog then sent their findings in April this year to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charges.

Charmaine Arbouin, IOPC regional director, said at the time of the referral: “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life and our thoughts and sympathies are with Mr Guedes’ family and friends both here and in Brazil.
“We have spoken with Mr Guedes’ family to explain our role and we will keep them updated as our investigation progresses.”
