At least five people have been wounded in a stabbing incident near Amsterdam’s central Dam Square, police have said.
Officers said: “At the Sint Nicolaasstraat nearby the Dam there has been a stabbing incident with several injured people.
“We are present at the Dam and blocked the area.”
A suspect has been arrested.
Police said they were unable to establish a motive.
On X, they appealed to the public for any footage that may have been taken of the stabbing.

Multiple ambulances have responded to the event and a trauma helicopter has landed on the square.
Local media reported that a city council meeting involving Amsterdam Mayor Femke Halsema was interrupted because of the stabbing.
