A woman has been arrested after a video was posted online showing human faeces being poured on to a memorial for Captain Sir Tom Moore.
The targeting of the life-sized memorial of Sir Tom in Thistley Meadow, Derbyshire, attracted condemnation online.
Austin Cox, whose firm AGC Fabrications gifted the memorial to Thistley Meadow, said he would be working with the police after the alleged vandalism on Friday.
A spokesperson for Met Police said: “A woman was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage on behalf on Derbyshire Constabulary, following an incident in Hatton on 1 October.”
The woman in the video was wearing a T-shirt saying “End UK Private Jets”, and claimed every time one takes off in the UK, “it pours a bucket of s*** and blood on to everything that Captain Tom stood for”.
The memorial of Sir Tom has been targeted before. Late last year, “IRA” was spray-painted on to the sculpture.
Sir Tom, who walked 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday to raise more than £32m for the NHS, died at Bedford Hospital in February 2021 after testing positive for COVID-19.
He was knighted by the Queen in recognition of his efforts.
