Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murdering 16-year-old Brianna Ghey, who was stabbed to death in Warrington on Saturday.
Brianna was found with serious injuries on a path in Culcheth Linear Park at around 3.13pm.
Emergency services were called but she died at the scene.
Cheshire Police said a boy and girl, both 15 years old, had been arrested after an earlier appeal to trace two people seen in the park.
Both are from the local area and remain in custody.
Detective Chief Superintendent Mike Evans said there was no evidence to suggest the incident was hate related.
A post-mortem examination on Brianna’s body is ongoing.

Anyone with information “no matter how big or small” is being urged to call police and detectives especially want to speak to people who were in the park on Saturday afternoon.
“We are also keen for people and businesses within the local community to check any CCTV or dashcam footage for anything that may aid our investigation,” said Mr Evans.
