An IT company in India is sending staff a message telling them to “please go home” in an effort to improve their work-life balance.
SoftGrid Computers has created a system that notifies employees when their shift has ended.
The message that pops up on their PC reads: “Your shift time is over. The office system will shut down in 10 mins.”
Head of Management Mohammad Ali Fanee told Reuters: “We believe in the work life balance.
“We believe when you are happy internally, when you are happy with your family, you work pretty well.”
Employee Tanvi Khandelwal, said on LinkedIn: “My employer supports #WorkLifeBalance. They put this special Reminder, which locks my desktop after business hours and issues a warning.
“And this is a reality of our office!! Yes in this era we believe in flexible working hours and happy environment.”

In 2021, the World Health Organisation warned that working long hours could have potential health risks.
The study found that working 55 or more hours per week led to a 35% higher risk of stroke and a 17% higher risk of heart disease – compared to working 35-40 hours per week.
More recently, a “major breakthrough” was made during the world’s biggest trial of a four-day working week.
The test – which saw people keep the same salary – was deemed a success, with 56 out of the 61 firms saying they would stick with the new regime.
