New York Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against crypto exchange KuCoin, according to a March 9 announcement.
That announcement says that the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) was able to trade crypto on the exchange, which is not registered in the state.
The office now aims to stop KuCoin from operating within New York. The company will be told to restrict access to its website until it can comply.
The OAG also says that KuCoin claims to be an exchange but is not registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. It also allegedly offers unregistered securities through KuCoin Earn — a lending and staking project.
The Attorney General made similar allegations against CoinEx in late February. It has also taken action against several other cryptocurrency companies in the past.
