‘Serious issues linked to the cost of living crisis’
In 2022, teachers in England reported an increase in children who cannot afford school meals, lack warm clothing and struggle to concentrate in class.
After surveying 6,200 state school teachers, it was revealed that staff were seeing “serious issues linked to the cost of living crisis“.
Around 52% of teachers found an increase in students who were not eligible for free school meals.
The teachers in the survey also revealed that some of the pupils were coming to school hungry and some families were asking to be referred to a foodbank for support.
