A man has been arrested after a 21-year-old woman was killed in a crash on the M62 in Merseyside this morning.
The collision between a grey Vauxhall Corsa and a silver Mercedes C180 happened in the early hours of Saturday between junctions five and six of the motorway.
A man and a woman were rushed to hospital but the woman, a passenger, died.
The man received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The M62 westbound carriageway remained closed on Saturday morning and drivers were asked to find an alternative route as police investigated.
Merseyside Police thanked the public for their patience while they dealt with the collision.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the force’s Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Firstly my thoughts and condolences are with the family of the woman who has sadly lost their life in this collision.
“We have now launched an investigation into her death and her family have been informed. They are being supported by our specially trained liaison officers.
“My investigation team are in the early stages of gathering and examining evidence so that we can provide the family with answers.”
