Rep. Austin Scott has been eliminated from the House GOP speakership ballot, as Majority Whip Tom Emmer continues to win a plurality of votes.
Emmer, who topped 100 votes for the first time, is inching closer to a majority of the 221-member conference. Republicans will now begin a fourth ballot.
The Minnesota Republican has continued to build support, though it is still unclear if he could get 217 votes on the floor, the same problem Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) faced last week.
Here’s the third round tally, according to a person familiar with the secret ballot results.
- Rep. Tom Emmer (R-Minn.): 100
- Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.): 43
- Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.): 32
- Rep. Kevin Hern (R-Okla.): 26
- Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.): 12
A total of six Republicans didn’t choose a candidate: Three members voted “other” and three more voted “present.”
