Two Alabama Republicans are poised to do battle in a GOP primary after a federal court picked a new congressional map that will likely result in an additional Democratic seat.
Barry Moore told a local Alabama media outlet he planned to challenge Jerry Carl following the map redraw: “I am a true conservative, and the system doesn’t like a true conservative.”
Carl replied in a statement: “Bring it on. I have a proven track record of putting Alabama first every day and delivering conservative results for Alabama’s First Congressional District. I’m not afraid to fight Biden’s radical, out of touch ideas or whatever else comes my way.”
Moore and Carl both first arrived in Congress in 2021. Earlier this month, a federal court adopted a map that is likely to adopt an additional Democratic member in the delegation. The redrawn map would transform the state’s 2nd District into one that runs across the state, and provides a strong likelihood of electing another Black Democrat from Alabama to Congress.
