King Charles III took his place for the Queen’s committal service – the same spot where his late mother sat for Prince Philip’s funeral last year.
Positioned closest to the altar, the seat is of great historical importance.
It is the same seat on which Henry VIII worshipped 500 years ago, and where every monarch since has sat.

King Charles was surrounded by close family during Monday’s service as he took his place in the monarch’s seat at St George’s Chapel.
Back in April 2021 the Queen sat alone in the same spot for Prince Philip’s funeral due to strict COVID restrictions.

And now, following the Queen’s death, it will be where King Charles sits every time he visits St George’s Chapel.
The chapel is the home of the Order of the Garter and the knights and ladies of the garter have their own seats inside the chapel, marked with their banner, hung from the ceiling above.
